Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd is a Chinese automobile manufacturer based in Beijing. It was founded in 1953 as the “First Accessory Factory.” The company was renamed Beijing Automobile Works in 1958. In 1987 it merged with the Beijing Motorcycle Company and the Beijing Automobile and Motorcycle United Company was founded.
 

Today’s company, Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd (BAW) was founded in 2001 and incorporates the original Beijing Automobile Works, as well as the first Chinese automobile joint venture Beijing Jeep, Beijing Automobile Assembly and Beijing Foton.
 

Beijing Automobile Works Co. has specialized in light off-road vehicles and trucks. While off-road vehicles are its main focus, it also develops special vehicles to meet the demands of the military, the domestic civilian market, and the overseas market.
 

Beijing Auto Works is headquartered in the Chaoyang District of Beijing. It has two separate plants – one in the Chaoyang District and the other in the Shunyi District.
 

Beijing Auto Works made history when it formed the first automotive manufacturing joint venture in China’s history. In 1984 it formed a joint venture, Beijing Jeep Corporation, Ltd., to produce the Jeep with AMC, an American automobile manufacturer. In 1987, when Chrysler bought AMC, it also assumed AMC’s role in the joint venture with Beijing Auto Works. This joint venture eventually carried over to the newly formed DaimlerChrysler in 1998.
 

The company has many joint ventures with other automobile manufacturers including DaimlerChrysler, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi.
 

Beijing Auto Works exports its products to more than 30 countries and regions worldwide.
